Arafune is a good leader, being the captain and seemingly the strategist of the Rank 11 B-Rank Unit.[1] Boasting 8349 usage points with Eaglet and 8266 with Kogetsu,[2] he is both a very skilled Sniper and a capable Attacker, who is knowledgeable enough to have instructed Kō Murakami, the current No. 4 Attacker.[3] He used to be quite high-ranking,[4] and, although he still participates in Rank Wars with Kogetsu, his skill has been noted to have dropped since he became a Sniper.[5] Nonetheless, he remains a powerful foe to most enemies, and his versatility somewhat compensates for the lack of close-quarters combat abilities of his teammates.[6] He held his own against Yūma Kuga with Hokari's support, and, even after the latter left, Arafune managed to slow his opponent down for a bit longer, although he was never able to hit him or force him to block his attacks without cover fire. He is also quite proficient as a Sniper, having reached Master Class in a eight months[4] and ranking 7th in stealth training during Sniper practice.[7]
Arafune has good reflexes, being the only person in his team to have survived Lamvanein's attack,[8] and, despite being locked in a duel with Kuga, he was able to notice the movements of other agents around him, which suggests he is rather observant.[9] He is also analytical as, by watching the logs, he managed to learn enough about Kuga's fighting style to be a challenge for him.[10] Despite losing both his legs in their duel, Arafune didn't miss a chance to quickly and accurately snipe Chika who had just revealed her whereabouts.[11]
Arafune has reached Master Class with Egret[2], his sole Sniper Trigger,[12] which speaks for a remarkable degree of proficiency with it. He managed to hit Ranbanein while the latter was flying[13] and to take out Chika immediately after she revealed her presence and despite the loss of both legs.[14] Arafune is first seen using Egret in Chapter 54 (Episode 25 in the anime).
Arafune has reached Master Class with Kogetsu[2], which vouches for a remarkable degree of proficiency. As a mark of his skill, he was able to wield it efficiently with only one hand[15] despite its weight[16] and one of his legs being injured.[17] He uses his free hands to hold the scabbard.[2][18] Even though his swordsmanship has deteriorated since he became a Sniper[5], he was able to hold off the likes of Yūma, although he started taking damage shortly after Hokari stopped assisting him.[5] Against him Arafune held his sword with a reverse grip[2], possibly due to the narrowness of the staircase they were fighting on, whereas he employed a natural grip to dispatch the Dogs.[19] He has been seen combining his swordsmanship with Bagworm[20] and Shield.[18] Arafune is first seen using Kogetsu in Chapter 89 (Episode 41 in the anime).
A Trigger which prevents the user's position from being detected by Radar, and a fundamental asset to Snipers. Although Attackers are usually hindered in their movements by Bagworm,[21] Arafune is capable of craftily incorporating it in his fighting style when he fights as such, using it to hide wounds that would otherwise attract the opponent's attention[17] or to obscure their vision before striking with Kogetsu.[20] He is first seen using it in Chapter 54 (Episode 25 in the anime).
Arafune can use Shield to cover his retreat[22] or to protect his back when engaging multiple opponents with ranged attacks.[18] He seems to prefer to cast a hexagonal Shield that covers his upper body and part of his legs, as well as his head if he ducks.[22][18] Arafune is first seen using Shield in Chapter 89 (Episode 40 in the anime).
